“Maya and the three” is a Netflix animated series for kids and families inspired by Meso-american cultures. And we found something that led us to announce this story in a unique way for Colombian people. Here, prophecies and tales have always been told by the “cuenteros” traditional storytellers that through oral tradition have brought the stories of the country back to life.
Instead of using another typical trailer to announce Maya’s story, we decided to create the first trailer told as in ancient times. One told and performed by a real Colombian “cuentera” (traditional storyteller).
First, we worked closely with a real traditional storyteller to turn Maya’s trailer into an oral traditional performance. Then, we found the place where Colombian families have gathered for years to listen to the storytellers and we turned it into an ancient battle field where through mapping, lights and special sound effects we brought kids to Maya’s sceneries.
